The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a
Central Sector Scheme of Government of
India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. The
NIT Jamshedpur unit of NSS consists of 200
Volunteers, along with a core team guided by
the Program Coordinator and Program
Officers. NSS Volunteers take part in various
government led community service activities
The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service. The NSS commitee consists of Dr. Mrutyunjay Rout as Programme Coordinator accompanied by 4 Program Officers. The student body is lead by Nikhil Srivastava as President & Abhishek Verma as vice president respectively
Every year during winters, National Service Scheme, NIT Jamshedpur organises cloth donation for the needy. On 8th March, 2019 a cloth donation event was organised by NSS in association with the Rotary Club, Jamshedpur.Students and Staffs participated in large numbers and donated their old clothes which was then distributed to the needy people with the help of Rotary Club and NSS volunteers. More than 100 people of different age groups were benefitted with this event.
National Service Scheme, NIT Jamshedpur organises tree plantation drive regularly in the campus with a motto of green campus. We have planted more than thousands of plants around the campus. We not only plant saplings but also ensure that they get proper nourishment.
National Service Scheme, NIT Jamshedpur organises Blood Donation Camp in assosiation with the Red Cross Society for the well being of the society. We understand the importance of blood for the ones who are in trouble. This allows the people in campus to contribute their bit to the society by saving someone's life.
To make people aware of the importance of cleanliness in their life, NSS NIT Jamshedpur monthly organises Swachchta Drives in which NSS volunteers march around the campus chanting slogans for Swachchta and cleaning the surroundings they pass in the campus.
Under the direction of Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, for the awareness of SUP, National Service Scheme, NIT Jamshedpur organises a Plogging event on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Since inception of the NSS in the year 1969, the number of students strength increased from 40,000 to over 3.8 million up to the end of March 2018 students in various universities, colleges and Institutions of higher learning have volunteered to take part in various community service programmes.
